For this message we’re going explore the Fruit of The Holy Spirit, what they are and what they are not.
Back in 1984 when I started to really get serious about my relationship with God, the term, walking in The Spirit came up with some friends who were part of a group called Models and Photographers for Christ. I was doing a lot of traveling back and forth from Europe and in the states as well. We were discussing controlling the flesh and its desires. So naturally we focused on walking in The Holy Spirit.
Walking in The Holy Spirit, What does that mean?
In video one of this series I briefly talked about the “Love list” that compels us to Love and honor God. In video two we briefed “The Walk” by doing an introduction for further discussions and messages about our daily walk, walking in a ministry gift, and those who walk in a modern day apostolic like anointing.
Just like “The Love” and “The Walk” introductions, The Fruit is also on going and the foundation of Love and our walks.
It’s impossible to cover these topics in one message. Besides, compelling each other unto good works is a very important daily life style. The Apostle Paul learned through direct conversations with our risen savior Jesus Christ, and by revelations from The Holy Spirit, the importance of having lists. Lists can greatly help us in our Spirit led faith walk.
I. Paul, as all the Apostles, knew that what actually flows from God’s character to us is supposed to flow through and from us. Jesus is always faithful to direct us by showing us what’s pleasing to Him through The Holy Spirit. Jesus IS our perfect example of what walking in The Fruit of The Spirit looks like. He embodied The Spirit of God in all that He did.
A. The Fruits are actually part of The God Head’s attributes that describe who They are.
There is no way we can perfectly walk the fruit walk and yet because of the grace of God and the Faith of Christ in us we must try. It’s really impossible not to try because we are being molded to be like Jesus through God The Holy Spirit. To Love God is to reverence and fear God and walk in obedience to Him.
II. As Holy Spirit leads the righteous He teaches them to walk in repentant admonition. This means we are ever mindful of His presence and His will and when we step out of His will or walk in the flesh those truly in Christ will realize through God’s admonitions to change course by repenting. When this happens we give praise and glory to God for His mercy and love in our lives. The (9) fruit of The Holy Spirit are all nouns which identify the behavior of those in Jesus Christ.
A. Galatians 5:22 states: But the fruit of The Holy Spirit are
III. Against such things there is no law.
(If we walk in His Spirit – we walk in God who is above the law and in Jesus we are in a covenant of Mercy through Grace which is a gift from God The Father.)
A. So then, walking in The Spirit of God is to walk in His truth and be ever mindful of His admonitions by His Holy presence.
v24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified: the flesh with its passions and desires.
(Paraphrased:Those who belong to Christ Jesus have surrendered to Him daily to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires.
B. v25 Since we live by The Holy Spirit, let us walk in step with The Holy Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit corrects us He leads us to change course – turn around – to repent. (This is the ongoing admonition process that leads us to repentance – to crucify the flesh and reverse course.)
What course has The Lord been working with you to change? If we are all totally honest every item in the list is an ongoing daily challenge. But as He encourages us to walk in the fruit we have to realize He IS The Fruit and the fullness therein.
Because He, The Holy Spirit, dwells in us, He is forever challenging us to be like Jesus who walked without sin. That’s why it is so important to press into Him everyday.
How do we do that: by giving Him praise, by worshiping Him, by reading His word and by praying both from our hearts and by The Holy Spirit.
